NGT
I have to have a special tube put down my nose.
This is called a nasogastric tube or an NG tube.
First, they will measure the piece of tube from my nose to my ear to above my belly to see how long it needs to be.
I will try to stay still so everything goes quicker. I might need my carer or some nurses and doctors to help me keep still and safe.
They will dip the tube in some slippery gel to help it slide in my nose easier.
As the tube goes into my nose I will feel it in the back of my throat. This might feel different, but that is okay.
I can take sips of water to help the tube find its way to my belly.
When the tube is in the right place, they will tape the tube to my nose and cheek so it doesn’t move around.
They might use a small syringe to suck some stuff up to check the tube is in the right spot.
I might also have an X-Ray to check the tube is in the right spot.
All finished, Good job!
How am I feeling?
