Appointment

I have to visit the GP.

A GP is a type of doctor for the whole body.

I will try to wait until it is my turn. When they call my name it is my turn to go into the GP's office.

The GP might do lots of different things to check if I am okay or if I am sick.

First they will talk to me or my carer. I can tell them things and ask questions.

They might check my height and my weight.

I will try to take my shoes off and stand still when they measure me.

They might put a special cuff on my arm to measure my blood pressure.

It might feel really tight for a short time before feeling better. This is okay.

They might check my temperature in my ear or use a temperature gun that shines a light on my head.

I might have to lie on the bed so the doctor can press on my tummy to feel for anything new.

If anything hurts when they press on my tummy I can tell the doctor.

They might use a stethoscope to listen to my heart and lungs. I will try to keep still and quiet when they are listening so they can hear better.

They might use a special torch to look in my ears.

They might use a torch to look in my mouth.

I will try to open my mouth wide so the doctor can see better.

The doctor might look in my eyes with a torch.

They might get me to read a special chart out loud to see how well my eyes are working.

The doctor might tap my knees and my elbows to check my reflexes - the tapping makes them move!

All finished, Good job!

How am I feeling?
